Steam level milestone with XP and complete card set totals

Cost depends on the set source; XP per craft does not.

Steam has no fixed price per level. First calculate the complete sets required, then multiply by the price of the sets you can actually obtain.

How much does one Steam level cost?

In the 13 September 2026 steam.tools/cards export, a complete set had a $0.75 median price and the lowest observed set was $0.25. Each craft gives 100 XP, while the XP required for one level rises by 100 after every ten levels.

The final column uses the dated $0.75 median set price; it is a benchmark, not a live quote.
Level Total XP Card sets Min. games Friend slots Showcases At median price*
10 1,000 10 2 300 1 $8
25 4,500 45 9 375 2 $34
50 15,000 150 30 500 5 $113
100 55,000 550 110 750 10 $413
150 120,000 1,200 240 1,000 15 $900
250 325,000 3,250 650 1,500 20 $2,438

*Raw-card cost at the $0.75 median set price, steam.tools/cards export of 2026-09-13 (13,841 sets). A carefully selected eligible basket can be lower; availability and your existing badge levels determine which sets you can use.

The calculator deliberately reports XP and set counts without a price slider. Prices move, currencies differ, and a static estimate can look more precise than the underlying market. Use its set result with a current quote from your chosen source.

At SteamLevelForge’s current approximate rates, level 25 from zero costs about $13.50 in TF2-key value or $17.10 through PayPal/card: 45 sets multiplied by $0.30 or $0.38. These are operator-provided reference rates, not permanent promises. The live calculator is final because available games and currency rates move.

Why do complete sets have different prices?

Card supply follows ownership, play activity and listings for each game. Set size also varies. None of those factors changes the XP reward, so a low-cost five-card set and an expensive set both produce one 100 XP craft.

The export covered 13,841 complete sets. About 63.7% were under $1, the middle set was $0.75, and the mean was $2.49 because a small expensive tail pulled it upward. The median is a better broad benchmark, while a carefully selected basket can cost less.

The cheapest visible listing is not the cost of a whole level plan. A normal badge can be crafted only five times, so each inexpensive game contributes at most five sets. Previously maxed badges contribute none. As the target grows, the basket consumes the lowest eligible games and moves into the next price bands. This is why multiplying the single cheapest set by 550 produces a number nobody can reliably buy.

Cost by milestone at the current Forge rates

The table above shows a Market median benchmark. Applying the current approximate Forge rates to the exact set counts gives a second useful comparison:

Target from level 0 Sets TF2 keys at ~$0.30/set PayPal/card at ~$0.38/set
Level 10 10 $3.00 $3.80
Level 25 45 $13.50 $17.10
Level 50 150 $45.00 $57.00
Level 100 550 $165.00 $209.00
Level 150 1,200 $360.00 $456.00

These figures do not include free XP already on an account. They also do not guarantee that every payment currency produces the same effective rate. Use them to understand scale, then obtain a current quote.

What does level 100 cost?

Level 100 requires 55,000 total XP, or 550 sets from zero. A normal game badge crafts five times, so the basket must span at least 110 games. The raw-card estimate was about $200 using the least expensive qualifying games and about $413 at the median price.

Those figures exclude your time. Our example basket contains 3,195 cards. Buying multiple copies at once can reduce the number of orders, but you still need to find eligible games and complete each set. See the level 100 checklist for the full workload.

Which costs do simple estimates miss?

  • Steam takes roughly 15% when you sell items, so wallet value received is lower than the buyer’s total.
  • Market purchases remain inside Steam Wallet; they are not cash you can withdraw.
  • Trade and Market holds can alter timing even when the nominal price is unchanged.
  • Crafting 550 badges still takes roughly 90 minutes after every card arrives.

If an owned set is valuable, compare selling it with crafting it. A $12 set gives the same XP as a $0.25 set. The cheap Steam levels guide explains the price floor and warning signs.

How do Market buying and delivered sets compare fairly?

Compare three totals: the same set count, only games the account can still craft, and prices observed at the same time. Then record the work. For level 100, our optimized Market basket was about $200 and took roughly 17 hours including crafting. Forge is about $165 in TF2-key value or $209 through PayPal/card and leaves about 90 minutes of customer crafting. The key route is cheaper in this example; the cash route is close. On another day or account, rates and eligibility can change the result.

SteamLevelForge is run by the same team as this site, so this is a disclosed operator comparison. Its Market-versus-delivery analysis publishes the assumptions and live service figure.

How should you make the buying decision?

Start with existing XP, free account badges and complete sets already in inventory. Calculate the remaining sets. For a small target, checking the Market manually can be easy. For a large target, build enough of the basket to see whether the early low prices persist after craft limits and existing badges are applied. Finally, compare the complete usable basket with a live delivery quote.

Do not assign zero value to cards already in inventory. Crafting a tradable $5 set still consumes $5 of value even if no new cash leaves the account. Likewise, Steam Wallet money cannot be withdrawn as cash, so a wallet-funded Market route may fit someone who already has balance even when its nominal total is higher.

Calculate sets first, compare current totals, and treat time as part of the decision. The buying guide explains what a legitimate delivered-set purchase contains.

Frequently asked questions

How much does one Steam level cost?

There is no fixed cash price because the XP needed per level rises every ten levels and card-set prices vary. Calculate sets first, then apply a current price per complete set.

How much does Steam level 100 cost in cards?

From level zero it needs 550 sets. The 13 September 2026 steam.tools/cards export produces a $200.30 optimized basket across the cheapest 110 games and about $412.50 at the $0.75 median set price.

Do expensive Steam badges give more XP?

No. A standard game-badge craft gives 100 XP whether its set costs cents or hundreds of dollars, so valuable sets are usually poor choices for leveling.

Is a leveling service cheaper than the Market?

It can be. SteamLevelForge is currently about $0.30 per set with TF2 keys or $0.38 through PayPal/card, below the $0.75 median in our dated Market sample. The key route also beats the optimized $200 level-100 basket. Compare live totals because rates change.
