The number stays inside the emblem while color and shape show the surrounding level range.
Steam’s profile level emblem encodes three pieces of information at once: the number is the exact level, color marks the ten-level tier, and shape marks the hundred-level range.
What is the Steam level badge?
The profile level badge is the emblem shown beside the account’s numeric level. Its color changes at each ten-level boundary and its shape changes at each hundred-level boundary. The level number remains centered inside the badge as the artwork changes.

Compare the outlines above to see the hundred-level families. The number inside each emblem identifies the milestone.
Which color belongs to each ten-level range?
Within a shape family, the color proceeds through ten tiers: 0–9, 10–19, 20–29 and onward through 90–99. At the next hundred, the shape changes and the ten-color sequence starts again for that new family.
Color is visual only. The Steam level benefits guide explains the features linked to the numeric level.
What changes at level 100?
Level 100 begins a new shape family and starts at 55,000 total XP. From level zero that means 550 standard crafts. The color then advances again at 110, 120 and each later ten-level boundary.
| Level | Total XP | Card sets | Min. games | Friend slots | Showcases |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | 1,000 | 10 | 2 | 300 | 1 |
| 50 | 15,000 | 150 | 30 | 500 | 5 |
| 90 | 45,000 | 450 | 90 | 700 | 9 |
| 100 | 55,000 | 550 | 110 | 750 | 10 |
| 150 | 120,000 | 1,200 | 240 | 1,000 | 15 |
| 200 | 210,000 | 2,100 | 420 | 1,250 | 20 |
| 250 | 325,000 | 3,250 | 650 | 1,500 | 20 |
| 300 | 465,000 | 4,650 | 930 | 1,750 | 20 |
How do you reach the next color?
Choose the next multiple of ten above the account level and enter it as the target in the Steam level calculator. A live public-profile lookup uses exact total XP, which matters when the account has already filled part of its current level bar.
How do you read a badge at a glance?
Read the number first; it is the exact account level. Use color only as a quick ten-level band and shape only as a hundred-level family. A purple-looking badge does not mean a fixed level by itself because the color sequence repeats after the next shape boundary.
For example, levels 170–179 share a color tier within the 100–199 family, while 270–279 use the corresponding tier in a different shape. The centered number removes ambiguity. The badge is generated by Steam and cannot be selected independently of earned XP.
Which visual milestones matter most?
Multiples of ten produce the frequent visible change and usually align with a showcase unlock. Multiples of one hundred produce the larger outline change. If appearance is the goal, compare the next ten-level boundary with the next hundred before buying cards; the hundred may require many times more sets.
Level 90 begins at 45,000 XP, while level 100 begins at 55,000 XP. That final ten-level band alone therefore requires 100 standard sets. The visual jump at 100 is deliberate, but it carries the most expensive block reached so far.
Are these game badge designs?
No. Game badges use artwork supplied for each game and progress through up to five normal levels. The profile-level emblem is Steam’s account-wide display of accumulated XP. Crafting any qualifying badge can move the account number, but it does not turn the game badge into the profile emblem.
You can feature a favorite game badge separately without changing the emblem beside your account level.
Can you keep a badge color after leveling past it?
The profile-level emblem follows your current level. If you are choosing a target for its color, check the next ten-level boundary before crafting more sets. A featured game badge is a separate choice. The showcase unlock guide can help you balance appearance with useful profile space.
SteamLevelForge is run by the same team as this site. Its live level calculator handles current stock and payment options after you decide on a visual target.

Frequently asked questions
When does the Steam level badge change color?
The color tier changes every ten levels within a hundred-level shape family. The displayed number remains the exact account level.
When does the Steam level badge change shape?
A new shape family begins every hundred levels. Level 100 therefore changes both the displayed range and the badge outline compared with level 99.
Does badge color affect Steam perks?
No. The emblem is a visual representation of account level. Friend slots, showcases and booster odds follow the numeric level rather than a chosen color.
How much XP is needed for a new badge shape?
The amount depends on the current level because the XP curve rises every ten levels. Level 100 begins at 55,000 total XP, while level 200 begins much higher.
